When planning a wedding, couples tend to look back on traditions for inspiration, or what they think they should be incorporating into their wedding. However, it is important to remember that your wedding should be just as unique as you are as a couple, and some traditions can be left behind, or even created into new traditions!

  • Giving the bride away. Dating far back into history, fathers handing over their daughters has been the start to wedding ceremonies. However, it is no surprise that some brides don’t like feeling as though their fathers are giving them away, and breaking the close bond that they have always shared. Today, some brides are now choosing to have both their parents walk them down the aisle as a way to honor them. And, instead of being “given away”, they choose words such as “begin a new journey”, for a more heartfelt approach.

  • White wedding dress. When you think of a wedding dress, you most likely instantly imagine a pure white gorgeous gown adoring an ever so lovely bride. Today however, you may see brides choosing a color, or design elements, that are anything but white. From bold sashes to even all-colored dresses, it is becoming more common for brides to stray away from the traditional gown and express their own personal style.

  • Male only speeches. For many decades, it has been prominent that males involved within the wedding, such as fathers or even the Best Man, will provide a speech. Don’t let that discourage you though, as you can now plan to have your Maid of Honor provide a speech, or even your mothers. Speeches are now transforming, and most weddings encourage anyone to speak if they have something wonderful to say about the couple.

While traditions are lovely to follow, it is important to realize that you can incorporate anything you prefer within your big day! Here at Mountain House on Sunday River, we believe that each couple should create their wedding to reflect their personal interests.
